Week 2

This week we decided how our group WordPress (G6News) will work. It will be the home of our feature articles and short news stories. Visually it will resemble ABC News: the front page will have previews of the latest articles with a prominent image and the menu bar will have each person’s specialist category. Mine will either be ‘nerd culture’ or ‘pop culture’. Meanwhile, our individual WordPress sites will host our weekly progress posts.

The categories are as follows:

  • Josh Parreno: Gold Coast culture
  • Jayden Hausfeld: Gaming
  • Katie Hall and Andre Todman: Social issues
  • Tayla Hayes: Local music scene
  • Leah Watson: Nerd/Pop culture

My first feature will be on the 2016 Zine and Comic Symposium which will be held from the 19th to the 21st of August. There I will be interviewing zine and comic writers, illustrators and enthusiasts from all over Australia. As yet I have not decided which format the feature will follow, but it will most likely be the hourglass structure.

Additionally, I have organised to follow Danikah Harrison, known in the Australian zine and comic scene as DTime, during the symposium. This may result in the feature being primarily focused on Danikah, but that has not yet been set in stone. Ideally, I would like to investigate the growth of zines and comics in Australia as a whole.
